Recruitment for the 2026/2027 academic year is now open!
The Schulich School of Engineering is excited to provide an opportunity to support the first-year undergraduate experience in engineering. The Schulich Student Mentorship Program (SSMP) provides an opportunity for our first-year engineering students to receive mentorship and guidance from senior engineering students. For upper year students, mentoring provides a key professional and leadership development experience.
**Please note that at this time, the program is only open to undergraduate students.**
The program runs from October to April. First-year students will be paired with an upper year student mentor in mid-October, for the duration of the academic year.
Pairings are made based on academic and co-curricular interests, so first year students can learn about different departments, co-curricular activities, and expand their personal network!
Program Requirements:
- Complete the online orientation module.
- Meet twice per term and submit brief learning reflections after your meetings with your mentor/mentee.
- Attend one industry or professional development event.
- Attend the opening and closing networking events.
- Submit mid-year and year-end program feedback surveys.
Complete 3 of 5 program requirements to earn a UCalgary digital badge of participation.
